After spending the last 22 years of my life living in the Midwest, I knew it was time for a change. I chose to start job-hunting in Colorado because of the mountains—the purest example of nature at its best. As an avid snowboarder, camper and hiker, Wisconsin was an ideal place to explore my outdoor interests. But growing into my adventurous spirit and passion for public relations, the final trip I took to Colorado six months before I finished college sparked a fuse of motivation.

I was determined to graduate, find the ultimate PR job and move as close to the Rocky Mountains as I could possibly get. Never would I have expected to find a dream job in an ideal location—but after my ritual scan on Andrew Hudson’s Job List, a jolt of excitement rushed through me when I spotted the open account coordinator position at MYPR.

Taylor Cook recently joined Malen Yantis Public Relations as an account coordinator. Taylor, a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, recently relocated to the Vail Valley.

While studying journalism at the UW Oshkosh, Taylor immersed herself in the public relations community. She joined the Dr. Julie Henderson PRSSA Chapter, completed two internships and worked as a public relations assistant for a restaurant marketing agency. For three years, Taylor represented her PRSSA chapter in a variety of national and local opportunities leading up to and during her elected role as president her senior year.

Today, I am so excited to welcome Haley McNeill to the Malen Yantis Public Relations team as an account coordinator. I’ve known Haley personally for a year now and always thought so highly of her – her upbeat style and passion for Vail was always infectious.

As I contemplated bringing on an account coordinator a few months ago, a friend suggested I hire Haley, so I did some digging. Little did I know that Haley’s background was perfect for my company. She’s worked for a minor league hockey team handling media relations, a Web development company that gives her a unique online marketing perspective and, most importantly, she recently worked for a local radio station. So, in essence, she’s been “the media” and understands pr from their perspective.

Haley grew up in the valley, so I’m excited to see the personal touch she brings to showcasing Vail to media who visit this summer. From tales of hiking her favorite trails to what it was like to interview Vail’s own celebrity bachelor Ryan Sutter for the high school newspaper, there’s an authenticity to Haley that only comes from being a local.
